IN THIS ISSUE: Zoe is a fifteen year-old high school sophomore living in a trailer home in rural New Hampshire. She's not pretty. She's not popular. And she's no genius. But when a galactic warrior gives her some magical jewelry at a local flea market, Zoe Jane Laufenberg suddenly becomes the single most dangerous threat in the universe! Can Battle Team Omega help her work through her insecurities before she accidentally blows up the planet? Will Zoe ever talk to the cute boy in her second period drama class? And what's the deal with that alien invasion? Find out in this epic first issue!
SERIES SUMMARY: Can the world's most powerful superheroes raise a teenage girl? Mainstream superheroics mixed with melodramatic teenage absurdity (imagine the Justice League crossed with “The Breakfast Club”), Battle Team Omega serves as a reminder that no matter how powerful you are, raising a child might be the hardest job in the world.
And while we're here -- check out some preview pages:
What do you think? Not bad, right? Marco's art and Michael's letters look superb -- they really did a fantastic job! It's truly a joy to collaborate with them. Man, this book looks like gangbusters. Woo!
Okay, folks. Pick up a copy and let me know what you think. And as always, thanks for all the support!
Progress Report: Black Axe
Here is a sneak peek at the first seven pages of Black Axe # 1, with art by Fabio Nahon.
Fabio is truly a maestro when he's got his mitts on an old-fashioned graphite pencil. Those are seven seriously nasty pages, son. No doubt.

Progress Report: The Lunar Colony Auditions
Some random panels from The Lunar Colony Auditions, my third collaborative project with Jeremiah Goldson (after Rogue Agent Zed and Monica Furious: SuperDestroyer.)
Scenes from early in the story:
(Note: The script called for scenes where The Hulk and The Thing have a slugfest underwater, so I have no idea why Jeremiah is drawing images of a punk rock gig at a small club. Weird. Which one of these characters is going to yell "It's Clobberin' Time" or "Hulk Smash?")
I'm not sure why I insist on working with this Goldson character on a repeated basis. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't have a lick of artistic talent at all. Hmmm. I guess maybe I'm just a total sadist.
If you happen to be the sort of charitable, altruistic individual who likes to humor no-talent hacks as they draw comic books with their toes, check out Jeremiah's work in the Hypersmash titles Rogue Agent Zed, Monica Furious: SuperDestroyer, and The Lunar Colony Auditions.
But don't blame me if you hate the art. I tried to warn you.
Ten Page Preview of Monica Furious: SuperDestroyer #1
A look at the first ten pages of Jeremiah Goldson's creation, Monica Furious: SuperDestroyer. Art by Jeremiah, colors by Paul Little, letters by Michael David Thomas, script by yours truly.
Two different versions of a Black Axe page
I don't want to say that Fabio Nahon has some perfectionist tendencies, but sometimes he will send me page that I think looks amazing... and then he will change his mind, take it back, and re-draw everything! Wow -- that is true dedication to craftsmanship. You have to admire a man with such high standards.
Here's a peek at his process, as he sent me the opening page of Black Axe #1. Then he decided he wasn't thrilled with the results, and sent me a different version of the same page. See for yourself.
Here's Fabio's take on the first draft:
And here's the page that he was eventually happy with:
It's kinda like playing one of those "Spot the Difference" games! As you can see, he made different choices in terms of rendering armor, rock formations, shadows, trees, and more. Fundamentally, very similar pages. But at the level of fine detail, a very different approach to the two versions.
It's kinda fun for me to see the way an artist's mind works, the stylistic choices they make, and the different techniques they have at their disposal. Very cool.

Progress Report: Rogue Agent Zed
A lot of folks have indicated their great anticipation for the release of Rogue Agent Zed. I’m in the same boat! All of Jeremiah's preview art is breathtaking. I just want to reassure everyone that he continues to work hard on the book, and we are closing in on the finish line. I've seen some of his later pages and they look great. I would love to share all of them with you -- but they contain some blatant plot spoilers, and I can't figure out a way to post them without ruining parts of the ending! Hmmm. Here, let me show you a couple of works that don’t seem to compromise the integrity of the story. These are some more recent panels from Jeremiah, showing some unfinished pencils and offering a little insight on his work process.

We have been working on this book for four years now, and believe me when I tell you -- the project has truly been a labor of love for the both of us. Hope you enjoyed the quick snapshot, and let’s hope it will help sustain us all until the final product hits the stands soon!
